I have 3 cars, and this is now my 9th dash cam. I started with a battery based cam in each car. And they did not make it through the summer, so my next 6 have been capacitor based. And all of them have lasted until I upgraded. This is my 3rd front/rear cam. And it is the best one. The camera quality is really good. The video I posted is from about 5 feet away, and you can clearly read the text, that is tiny. I didn't want to post someone's license plate, but I can tell you that license plates are clear from a longer distance compared to any of the other cams I've had. It even includes a pry tool that makes running the long cable a lot easier. The menu is fast too. I can't find anything wrong with it after a week. I will update the review if that changes, but this one feels like a solid cam.
I would have given this camera 4 stars due to so-so night time capture, but it’s sufficient. At 2K with 256GB you can record 12-15 hours, so it does require a large storage. The reason I’m giving this a 5 star rating is because the day time HD quality helped catch a hit and run accident runner. I was able to do a 500x zoom ratio using video enhancing tool to help catch a hit and run suspect. I was able to use the clip and send it to my insurer to prove that it was a hit and run and not increase my insurance rate comes renewal.
This is my third dashcam and I'm very happy with it. First camera was front only, then I upgraded to front/back, and now I have installed this front/back unit in my wife's car.The front camera can shoot in full 4k, which is probably overkill, but nice to have. I've uploaded a sample video with some night and day shots (I overlaid the rear-camera using some dashcam viewer software--each feed is recorded as its own independent file). As you can see, the colors are very vibrant and crisp compared to my prior cameras. In the full uncompressed videos, license plates are legible at a reasonable distance. The front camera has an adjustable mount that easily hides away behind my rear-view mirror. The rear camera is a svelte little tube that takes up very little space and doesn't obstruct your view. The user interface on this camera is the best of the 3 I have owned. Everything is clearly laid out and easy to browse. There is also a phone app that lets you see a live feed and browse recordings over a WiFi connection. This actually works at a decent speed and would be useful if you ever need to immediately preserve/send a video in case of an incident. Also, this may seem to be a minor point, but a big factor in opting for this camera is that it uses USB-C for both the main camera connection and the link between front and rear camera. I've been trying to swear off buying any new electronics that use outdated micro-usb (or even worse: mini-USB) connectors and it is nice to see a company going the extra mile to use USB-C.
I see constant freeze frames for minutes at a time the rebooting a common issue. I drive 42 miles one way and get 2 freezes and at least one reboot in that time. I know I am hooked up to a good power supply as it even has a voltmeter on the same circuit that I check each time an issue pops up.
Product impression: It does not look cheap. It’s well built and the outside feels like rubberized. I left it in a car through very hot summer and still no issue.
Very good resolution: See the photos. Both interior and exterior resolutions are good. Interior of my car is black leather and the person is wearing dark blue jacket but the camera still shows a good image. I redacted the face but details are pretty good. Vehicle license plate numbers can be read on 1080P (outside)/1080P(inside). The menu also offers a higher resolution but then it does not offer dual camera views.
Easy setup: Good suction cup/holder is very steady and not shaky. Well built, plug and play as the factory setting is already good for most users. Menu and buttons are simple and easy to understand. Good user interface.
Excellent/responsive customer: Customer support by email is very responsive and genuinely interested in resolving a customer’s concerns and issues. It generally takes 1 or 2 days to response but they do get back to you. They also don’t hesitate to offer exchange a defective dash cam under warranty after trouble shootings.
Optional GPS: Quick fix GPS antenna and enables speed of a vehicle stamps on video files.
Suggestion: Use good quality micro SD cards made for frequent write/delete like SanDisk High Endurance Video Monitoring. Check once in a while to make sure the files are not corrupted. Reformat every 1 or 2 weeks. Keep one extra SD card as backup. Throw away and get a new one if SD cards keep corrupted or turns on/off the dash cam. Also, always use OEM cable and charger. Connect USB directly to the dash cam rather than through the holder or GPS antenna if you are having any power issue. Update firmware only if necessary so that you know if the dash cam experiences some issues you can spot the issue.
