I had an older dash cam from Vanture in the past and decided it was time to upgrade.Although my previous camera worked great and still does, this newer model is a huge improvement. The video quality is excellent, it was super easy to set up, and I really appreciate having the rear camera as well. The video is crystal clear and it covers the range that a driver would want it cover. The suction of the mount is also excellent.I feel so much safer having both the front and rear camera so that if anything were to happen I know the facts would be recorded. I tested the wifi option and it worked great, but I do not typically use it as I am using Android Auto most of the time and not looking at my phone.I would highly recommend this camera for anyone that wants the piece of mind having a dash cam provides. As for my older model, I have given that one to my daughter and now I can feel better knowing that is covered in the event of any accidents as well.
This dash-cam is an upgrade from their previous models. They even include stickers that you can put on your car to deter people who plan to commit insurance fraud.Build Quality: Very good. The wires that they come with are also very beefy which is nice. Thin wires might snag and rip or even get damaged over time. The connectors are also very secure which is nice. Otherwise the dash-cam might get turn off while you’re driving. The 3 inch LCD screen is also very useful for programming and reviewing footage. But honestly I would rather use their app or a computer to review the footage. They also include a usb outlet built into the ac 120 volt charger.Video Quality: I didn’t get to test all the video modes cause I didn’t feel the need to but the 4k (30fps), 2k (60 fps), and 1080p (120 fps) all worked very well. For the most part I opted to stick with the 2k setting so that I still had a pretty good frame rate for when I’m reviewing the footage. The higher the frame rate the more details are captured when reviewing the footage which might be more important than 4k sometimes. Either way you have 3 options to run with for the front camera. For the rear your stuck with a 1080p (30 fps) camera but honestly that is more than enough for day to day driving. It’s not like anyone is using their dash-cam to shoot a movie. For the recording you have the option of 1,2 or 3 minutes loop recording. If you want to quickly download the footage I recommend the 1 minute setting especially if you’re recording in 4k since the files are a lot bigger. Also as you can see from my video it works well even on cloudy/rainy days.App: The app works very well for me at least. The only complaint that I have is that for the live video it’s very choppy and a bit blurry. But when reviewing the footages the videos are very clear. You also have the option to sync the videos onto your phone which I really appreciate. It’s save you the time from having to plug the camera into a laptop or your phone to show an officer or your insurance company.Install: The wires were very long and made it easy for me to install it in my 4Runner so it should be fine for all cars and SUV. Just remember that if you plan to hardwire the camera it’s better to connect it to something that turns on when the car is on otherwise it may drain your car battery. They will always say it they have a voltage cut off but I personally wouldn’t trust it. Other than that install was pretty easy as long as you know how to tuck the wiring under the headliner and have the knowledge to remove the a pillar of your car. But be careful of how you do the wiring around the a pillar, you don’t want to wrap the wire around the air bags because it may prevent it from deploying correctly. But beside all that every thing was pretty straight forward.
I'd like to first point out that I'm a bit of Vantrue fan boy, most of my dashcams recommendation to friends and family are made by Vantrue, and I have good reasons. My previous dashcam was X4 but decided to upgrade because I needed a rear cam, and X4S duo seemed like it would fit my need. In term of video quality and resolution, they both are comparable, and don't think one is better than the other. Features wise, X4S has upper hand, and you can now control it with an app over wifi. X4 was also starting to giving me issues and timestamp kept getting reset. After I received X4S, I upgraded the firmware right away, which was an easy process. You basically grab the firmware from Vantrue's website, place it on the sd card and connect it with USB power (not to a computer).I have my default resolution set to 3840x2160P@30fps because it's skipping frames with 2560X1440P@60FPS, probably due to the memory card. Something to keep in mind. I suggest getting the optional hardwire kit and GPS mount for showing location and speed. I also liked that you can set the rear cam to be the default view, and turn off auto screen shut off, it can basically act as a rear view mirror. Overall, I don't have much to complain just like their previous generation X4.
It works great when it works as far as I know of cause I’m not trying to be in another accident this year. Some odd reason the backup cam does not come on all the time very random I have to keep unplugging it from the base and plugging it back in. The front picture is great the back not to much unless it’s just the angle of my car window that could play a factor. But it works.
Product impression: It does not look cheap. It’s well built and the outside feels like rubberized. I left it in a car through very hot summer and still no issue.
Very good resolution: See the photos. Both interior and exterior resolutions are good. Interior of my car is black leather and the person is wearing dark blue jacket but the camera still shows a good image. I redacted the face but details are pretty good. Vehicle license plate numbers can be read on 1080P (outside)/1080P(inside). The menu also offers a higher resolution but then it does not offer dual camera views.
Easy setup: Good suction cup/holder is very steady and not shaky. Well built, plug and play as the factory setting is already good for most users. Menu and buttons are simple and easy to understand. Good user interface.
Excellent/responsive customer: Customer support by email is very responsive and genuinely interested in resolving a customer’s concerns and issues. It generally takes 1 or 2 days to response but they do get back to you. They also don’t hesitate to offer exchange a defective dash cam under warranty after trouble shootings.
Optional GPS: Quick fix GPS antenna and enables speed of a vehicle stamps on video files.
Suggestion: Use good quality micro SD cards made for frequent write/delete like SanDisk High Endurance Video Monitoring. Check once in a while to make sure the files are not corrupted. Reformat every 1 or 2 weeks. Keep one extra SD card as backup. Throw away and get a new one if SD cards keep corrupted or turns on/off the dash cam. Also, always use OEM cable and charger. Connect USB directly to the dash cam rather than through the holder or GPS antenna if you are having any power issue. Update firmware only if necessary so that you know if the dash cam experiences some issues you can spot the issue.
