Read the reviews: the people who buy this product have done research & comparisonsReviewed in the United States on August 12, 2020
I think my reviews are most useful to others if I focus on aspects of the product that other reviews generally have not. This is my first Vantrue product purchase and, to my surprise, I only came up with one comment nobody else made…Many Vantrue customers are very sophisticated about dash cams and detailed/thorough with their reviews! I think this alone says a lot about the product and it's my most important observation: the people who buy this dash cam aren’t making a random choice; they’ve owned previous dash cams and do careful research. So, I’m left to summarize my own reactions along with the important things that others also mention together. The obvious good features· Adds a rear camera to the more typical dual-camera configuration;· High quality lenses with relatively wide aperture for good images even in low-light conditions;· Sony StarVis CMOS sensors with good low-light sensitivity;· Nice big LCD display;· Can handle up to a 256 GB microSD memory card;· Accessories available to supply power to cameras even when car is off;· Capacitor-based power storage keeps unit from losing programming even in temperature extremes when a battery might not. Some less-obvious good features· Cabin camera is quite wide angle and catches pretty good views through the side windows;· Both rear and cabin cameras are angle-adjustable;· Power via the mount so that you don’t have to unplug the cable if you dismount the camera;· USB-C charging connections… much sturdier than the microUSB connections many use.My wish list· Internal GPS (apparently you can add an accessory, but this seems missing);· Wireless communication between the cameras (WiFi or, preferably, Bluetooth). Yes, with a little effort, one can hide the cable… but what if you want to move this from one vehicle to another?· Wireless communication (again, WiFi or Bluetooth) with cell phone or computer;· Longer recording mode for motion-sensor triggered event.Bottom line: Many others seem to consider the price-point of this model very good, but as a relative newbie to the dash cam market, it feels a little expensive given the lack of GPS and any wireless communication. At $260: four stars; at a slightly lower price, I’d probably have given five stars.
