Internial battery died around 1 year mark.Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2019
Last few days now I've been dealing with the time and date resetting back to 1/1/2018 (default) and attempted some basic troubleshooting e.g. firmware update, check config settings, check power supply etc. come to find out the battery in the camera is dead. A quick search online revealed this to be a pretty common issue with these cameras. Had they gone with a super capacitor instead, this camera would have been a 5 star product. Overall, the picture quality is phenomenal, the f&b cameras work perfectly, the size and shape are leaps and bounds better than most dash cams in this price range but to have to replace a $200 camera every year or rip it apart and unsolder and solder in a new battery is just too much to expect from a customer. I see the latest version of this cam is now built with a super capacitor but now with so many other cameras having come on the market I don't feel compelled to give this company my money again knowing they most likely over looked some other aspect in this new offering that will once again cost me time and money.Update: the repair took about an hour to perform. I was able to source the replacement Li-Po battery here on amazon and even was able to fit an upgraded 300mah (OEM 280mah) and soldered it in. Cost was about $7 plus my time. Not something I wana do yearly but if it buys me one more year then it will be worth the time and cost. Here’s to hoping Vantrue starts the move to super capacitors on all of their new models. In the meantime they’ll remain a 3 star product imo.
