Firmware Update Broke camera but Vantrue Fixed it!Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2019
Received the dash cam a few days ago and was working perfectly. I was amazed as to how good the "Parking Mode" function worked. Picked up the slightest movement anywhere in front and behind camera (when in dual camera mode). Was very happy until I decided to perform the firmware update. We followed the update instructions exactly as noted in the Vantru Support Page and after update it would not indicate the new firmware on the camera info screen even though it seemed to have gone thru the update process correctly. I reinstalled the camera in the car and noticed it would not go into parking mode when we tried to manually select it. After we were able to select Parking Mode (took several button pushes) the camera would not record unless you put your hand up against the windshield and waved it around (like a mad man) in order to get Parking Mode to activate. The same with inside camera. It took lots of movements before it activated. Before the update attempt the Parking Mode was the most impressive function on this camera, after the update (attempt) Parking Mode no longer worked properly. We sent it back to Amazon for a replacement and this time we will NOT be doing a firmware update..... so we recommend skipping the firmware update if your camera is working properly out of the boxUPDATE 5/18/19: We received the camera and, against my better judgement, we installed the new firmware. We again began to have the same issue with the camera but Vantrue came thru like a champ and helped us restore the firmware since it was no longer listed on their website. The customer service was outstanding. Vantrue helped us pinpoint the issue and took it upon themselves to update their website (within hours of my communication with them) in order to allow us (and anyone else having issues) to download it. The camera is now up and running perfectly. The Parking Mode, which we use a lot, works great. In daylight nothing seems to escape the Parking Mode sensor, even the cabin camera picks up movements on the sides (outside) of the vehicle. At night objects must be closer to car in order for Parking Mode to pick it up but still works very well
