This Vantrue S1 2160P Single Front, Dual 1080P Front and Rear Dash Cam with Built in GPS Speed cam is phenomenal. The fact that it's 2 channel recording is in 1080p is great enough, but the night vision/IR on the rear (cabin) facing camera is essential to my use as an Uber and Lyft driver. On the second night of having the camera I had a disruptive Uber Pool passenger. He was rude and annoying the other pool passengers. I pulled over to end the pool ride for this guy and he threatened to 1-star review me and said he'd tell Uber that I was the rude one, and that he'd get his money back for me cancelling the ride. I told him to go ahead, because my S1 Pro dash camera was recording this whole event, and I'd be sure that Uber saw what really happened. After that, he shut up and we had no more issues. The potential horrible ride turned out to be not as bad, thanks to the S1 2160P on the windshield! Thanks Vanture!
I bought this product based on a couple factors.1. I live and work in a hot climate (Middle East) so I needed a camera that can hold up in a hot climate.2. I had never heard of VanTrue but I saw they were highly recommended throughout my research.A lot of cameras I saw out there which were designed to work in hot climates seemed to sacrifice the GPS module in favor of a cooler running device whether it be powered by a standard battery or via supercapacitors. This model had what I was looking for, front and rear coverage, motion detector to record when your car is parked, large field of view for recording, GPS, shock sensor, clear recording day or night.Room for improvement:The screen is miniscule... I would love a bigger display, but this is probably a good thing, perhaps drivers would be distracted trying to watch the cam while operating the vehicle. If you could wirelessly connect to the camera and view/delete recordings. Currently you need to either remove the SD card and put it in your laptop or connect your laptop to the camera neither of which is convenient for me.Add an optional lane departure warning.Add Voice controls or Google integration.Even with these wants I am really happy with my purchase. This is a quality product I recommend it to anyone looking for a Dashcam
I am very satisfied with this setup. I purchased this so that I could stop using my phone as a dashcam. I'm quite pleased with my decision.Their support is excellent as well.I broke the cable for the rear camera during install, Vantrue promptly sent a replacement once they verified my purchase.
I received this as a gift from my significant other. And wow, this was super simple to install and set up!The video quality is great, the features are convenient and simple to set up. It even records well at night.I really like the G-sensor and parking feature. It isn't so large that it's intrusive, it's the perfect size to manipulate the controls and see the LCD screen well. The rear camera is tiny and doesn't block any of my rear view. Since you can switch camera views on the LCD screen you can use the rear camera as a sort of back up camera, I think that's pretty neat.Overall I am really impressed by and really like this dash cam combo!
I chose this dash cam for several reasons. First I wanted a separate camera for the rear since this was going into my Toyota Sienna. I don't need video of my kids behaving like lunatics. I need to see what's behind the vehicle. Secondly, I wanted a high quality sensor that would provide night vision and third I wanted a higher capacity than a lot of those cheap ones you see that can only handle a 32gb card.As you can see in my pics I snaked the wire all the way around the passenger side either in the headliner or in the rubber door gaskets. For the trunk section I removed two panels (gently pulling) to expose the stock harness for the tailights, etc. Using a very long screwdriver that I taped with electrical tape I sprayed it with detail spray and gently pushed it through the gromment. Then I taped the micro usb cable to the screwdriver and gently pulled it through the gromment. This was the toughest part. I could have left it partially exposed on the headliner down to the windshield but I thought this would make for a cleaner installation.Unit is easy to use. When I intially connected it to the pc it would randomly shut off....and it turns out the the inactivity timer was set to 1 minute. Once I disabled that feature I was able to leave it plugged into my PC for as long as needed to copy files.I like this unit so much I went and purchased 2 more for my two Mini Coopers and will be installing them this weekend.
This camera is everything i was looking for in a DashCam. Easy to figure out and the quality is definitely there. The audio can be turned on and off with a click of the button and you can configure the stamps for date, time, speed, etc. Im very impressed at this product and after running if for about a week. The only con i have about this product is there is a rattling on the audio occasionally. It isn't the end of the world to me like some people because you don't need audio as much as you need camera footage but it is annoying when you go to view a video and have to mute it because of the rattling.
I purchased this item 3 weeks after buying another Vantrue product, The T2 model, for my wifes vehicle. That one has a positive review from me as well. This is for the S1. I needed a well designed and compact dash cam system for my truck that also would have a rear view cam as well. I trailer and it is nice to have that reference for what may be happening behind me.The S1 fit the bill perfectly. easy installation, understandable instruction and product support in the form of downloadable firmware to ensure the latest up to date product operation. Took me longer to do the setup than it did to install. (setup time was minimal as well). One half of an hour and I was up and running. Great responses to my question from customer support, even on a Sunday eveing. Thanks Vantrue.
I’ve tried and used 15 to 20 different dash cameras over the years and this is the best I’ve found! This front and back camera do everything I need them to do! You can Even take the rear camera and set it out the side passenger windows in back as well for a real interesting view of passing vehicles.
I've been using a few dashcams but Vantrue S1 is the one that I love the most. Don't let the price fool you, you will get what you paid for and you will never regret your decision.- Excellent video quality, this is what I want and I bet it's what you are looking for as well. Forget about all of the blurry videos or images from cheap cams, this dual will give you a very clear and shape picture to detail, even the face of the person and license plate in the rain. If you look through the LED screen, you will see every detail of the front and rear views. The quality will be a lot better when viewing it from the SD card files.- It has a very slick and discreet design. For the front cam, if you mount it high enough under the shaded area, it will be hard to spot from outside. The back cam is small enough that no one will ever spot that.- Lackluster parking mode, it will automatically engage and disengage when motion is detected.- The package comes with a fairly long cable for the rear cam, so if you have a VAN/SUV it should fit perfectly.- The cord is small enough that I could run it through the interior of the VAN, without being exposed or dangling.- It has a GPS feature, but if you really respect your privacy it can be turned off easily, I do the same.Tips for running front and back dashcams:- Find a good location for your cam, do not adherence it yet, move it around to see if that's a good location. Tips: you can adjust the lens, instead of the whole cam.- After placing your front cam, do not plug it in the lighter socket yet. You will need to find a way to route the cable along the edge of the headlining. Then run it down the passenger side A-pillar and across the top of the footwell.- Now plug it into the lighter socket, it's usually in the center console of your car.- If the cable is still dangling, use a zip tie and tie up around the compartment or wire above the footwell.- You will need to do the same for the rear cam, make sure the exposed wire can be covered up with tape. Or you can just run it through any headline of your car.
Overall, this is a great dash cam and I love it. I have a N2 model as well, but it was worth upgrading especially due to the wonderful rear camera of this model(and also some other features)! If you install the dashcam cable properly, there are no "design flaw" issues. There are some negative comments in the review about the design issues of front and rear cameras related to "crossing" or "weird angle" of the cable. This happens when a cable which connecting the rear-front cameras is installed in reverse. The L shape side of the cable should go to the front camera, and the straight side should go to the rear camera. Vantrue should put a sheet of further explanation of the cable installation to avoid this issue, so people do not have to think there is a design flaw. When buying a dash cam with a separated rear camera, make sure to buy several cable clips with 3M adhesive tapes, so you can nicely organize the cables.Good; - Great picture quality of front and rear camera. The rear camera is as good as the front. Wide range camera as advertised. Good night vision. Parking mode works well(you need a heat-resistant battery during summer). - The cameras are installed with adhesive tape, not suction mount(all suction mount becomes weak eventually and a camera drops) - Easy to remove and install Micro-SD card. The location of the slot of the card is very accessible. - GPS. Dash Cam Player is downloadable and show a map when playing the video. Good legal records, and also fun to play the memory of traveling.Bad; No big issues, but I write some thoughts below. - Mannual can become better. For example, - the cable direction of connecting front-rear cameras to avoid connecting in reverse - Instillation tips of rear camera: I found out the best location to install rear camera is the top center of rear windshield, but no explanation is written in the manual. I should have installed the rear camera location higher, but difficult to remove the mount due to very strong adhesive tape. The installation would be very simple if there were a bit more explanation on the manual.- The price can be little higher side, but maybe descent considering all its functions and quality.- I wish there were a USB or HDMI output connector on the front device to display the rear camera view, so I can use it while my car is backing.- The connector of the rear camera could be on its upper side, rather than its left. Some people may feel the cable is little disturbing in the rear-view mirror initially, although there are no practical problems while you are seeing the rear-view mirror since the cable and also rear camera are small enouth. The connector is probably on its left side to install the camera up-side down if needed, so, this is good and bad. Personally, the cable does not bother me at all, although I first thought it could.
Camera is nice, but the parking mode recording stops too soon. That's why i bought this for. The camera didn't capture wether someone scratched my bumper because the camera stopped recording even though there was motion in view . A Car was trying to squeeze into the parking space behind me and possibly hit me but The recording stopped. It activated again 2 minutes later. The driver behind already left his car and no other footage was taken.Update: i giving it 2 stars now because it happened again. The front camera records something and once the activity is gone the recording stops even though there's activity going on with the rear camera. Happens vice versa. Someone may have tapped my rear bumper, but the recording stopped because the activity in the front of the camera stopped.Another update(july2020): when this first came out, it was advertised that it wouldn't kill the battery and it rarely does it; but it always kills my battery. My battery is new and it drained that battery after 1 day of sitting. I guess i now need to buy a battery bank if i want to keep my car battery alive. You don't need a Samsung SD card. I have a sandisk endurance 256gb. It works just fine. Idk why they advertise to only use a samsung or their SD card.update: august 2021. I'm giving it one star now. I had to buy two 30,000Mah battery banks to keep this powered. one battery bank only lasts about a day so, I have to recharge them and swap them out daily. The front camera slowly started to have it's problems like not recording even when parking mode is on. I would come and find that the camera froze and glitched out. I would get these lines across the screen. I updated the software and it didn't really help.I had to replace my rear cam because it couldn't focus on cars that were parked behind me, so they sent me a replacement. from china. this was right when covid was still over in china and not inside the US. I asked if i could get one that's already here, but they said their cameras are stored in china. In all, the cam + hard wiring + battery banks, I spent like maybe $300 just to try and get this camera functional and it only lasted a little over a year and a half.
At first I thought it would be too big on the windshield but it fix perfect. Very programmable, nice picture quality, easy to install. Rearview camera cable was a easy run. The display is a little hard to see because of the angle but lights on the controls tell you what it is doing. Park mode work very well.
I like my New Vantrue Dash cam . What I dont like is the OVER LONG REAR CAMERA CORD . Not everyone mounts there rear camera in THE REAR WINDOW ☹ VANTRUE NEEDS TO SUPPLY A SHORTER CORD FOR THE REAR CAMERA .
So I bought this camera thinking it is a good dual camera. But was wrong, first the charger started to blink which obviously took the power away from the front camera hence resulting both cameras not working. Few days later my back camera stopped getting power! Got in touch with customer service and got told that return the camera and get the replacement from amazon. Cool, thought maybe it was defective.. and ordered a new one. Less than 24 hours same issue! The back camera stopped working on the new unit as well!! Both the units are going back! Poor quality.. will never buy Vantrue
was sad abut my purchase when I was trying to go into the settings but the settings button wasn't working. Realized that you need to stop the video recording to be able to change the settings. Everything is exactly as I expected. great video/picture/audio quality, good field of vision, not really discreet as the unit/len pointing out the front is fairly large but discretion wasn't really what I was going for anyway. don't care if people know I am recording them as long as everything else performs well, which it does
This seems to be a good camera so far. Had more than enough cable to install in a crew cab ford. Power cable is nice and long, and picture quality is pretty good. The kit it comes in is pretty nice, includes extra 3m stick pads for the future. The g sensor seems to work well and the motion activates really well as well to.
I bought this device because we recently bought a new Ford Fusion and I wanted to add cameras to it in case of any accidents. I was able to have it fully installed in about 30 minutes, the rear cable was so long that I had to run it around the rear door frame fully to use the extra length. Make sure you follow the directions and charge it for at least a few hours first if your not going to hard wire it. I really like that it prints the GPS location as well as the current speed on the videos. I also like that it makes a sound when power is applied to it when you get in the car, its an extra piece of mind that its actually on and still kicking. There is also a light up button when its recording as well! You can see a side by side of the cameras if you watch the attached video, they should be in sync, if you want to get an idea of the video quality. The only real downside to this is that it does not have any way to connect to it remotely, it would be awesome if you could connect with WiFi to the device to view or change settings on the device as the placement kinda makes it a chore.
We will be returning both the Vantrue S1 dash cam units and look for another brand. There are a few issues with these cameras. First big one is the cable mounted design for the rear camera. It's a 90 degree bend that plugs into the camera which interferes with camera angle adjustments. When mounted, the camera keeps floating upwards away from focusing on rear traffic and pointing at the sky!!! Not what we wanted.Second, one of the front camera does not work. It will turn off a few minutes in and will not come back on. There may be a power issue with either the cable itself of the unit. A friend of mine said it could be due to overheating because the first day I had it mounted and went out, it was 99 degrees outside. Inside the car was over 140 degrees easily when not using the AC after coming back from shopping. The unit itself would not turn on. After a long while in the AC, it finally comes back on. Uhh, that's not good. Dash cams are suppose to be designed for extreme heat on the dash of all places, lol. Otherwise, where else are we suppose to mount it? On the bottom of the seats away from the heat source? lol. So, the unit is defective. The other one seems to work ok, but I did not take it out and the car's been sitting in the garage. I'll bet if I took it out and parked it somewhere under the sun, it would shut off too.Either way, I am returning both to Amazon and requesting a refund because these cameras are not what I expected. They're expensive as it is to be such an inferior design. They do not work and poor cable placement. Whoever the engineer that designed this camera needs to start over.I will not be purchasing Vantrue products again as this is my last and only time...........

This customer looked forward to having a 2-camera system that would provide a motion sensor. The Vantrue S1 does NOT cut the mustard. During low and no light and zero motion, such as parked in my garage, the camera records. Yes, it records constantly and I set the controls properly. When hard wired this will drain the battery. The motion feature was oversold and does not work as advertised and as noted form the emails I received from Vantrue. I paid to have the camera installed so feeling kind of stuck with it. Now will have it changed to switched installation (not hard wired) and use a power pack/charger.Get your act together, Vantrue. You should come clean about the S1 unit. Also, noted--grainy night video playback, excellent daytime but unable to read license plates with night video and only close up (3ft) with day video. If you insist on hard wiring then do not park the unit with the wires too close to your car GPS (re: passenger side).
After tried so many dash cameras, this one is the best. Great lens, has the options on 2k 30fps / 1080p 60fps. Premium image quality, And the installation Is easy and quick. Easy to operate and understand from the user manual. It looks awesome on my GT.
This new addition to our car is a peace of mind and fun to see things that we can't observe during driving. I am also amazed for the quality of the cam and function. Our previous cam was nice but stopped working it last for while. I am not so expert on this but my son is the curious one so we always give the technology for him to figure it out. He did great setting this up and trying to teach us how it works. One of the best feature of this cam, it looks and it does a great job.I just wanted to add that the product comes sealed as brand new and not like other products that are open. So that also gave me the security that I am receiving a brand new product in which that is a huge plus.
The camera works well and was super easy to install! The footage looks fantastic too, very high resolution.I’ve found that my car (and most vehicles in general) have enough space to hide the wire and run it along the top window area.
Been on the market for a solid dash cam for a while and have tried a bunch out. This is a solid winner for many reasons. First it’s small and discreet so it’s not going to act as a beacon for break ins. Two it has a screen for you to see the footage on and playback. Second it has the nifty rear view camera for full coverage. Built in little battery to start recording if something happens when the car is parked. On the first day I had this camera I recorded nearly getting into an accident with a jaywalker. Had to edit the audio due to some language ;)The loop recording will continue to write over files as long as you don’t need them. Speed and location are also recorded with the gas tracker. The setup and wiring are also very straight forward and hiding the cables are fairly simple as they just tuck into the headliner and the pillars of the car.
Nice dash cam only wish it hada built in SIM slot. Wish it had a place to put a GSM SIM card so I can track it in real time anytime via an app or on the computer. GPS is a nice built in feature but missing the sim component to live track. Other than that, great camera and probably the best I’ve used on the market today that has two cameras (front and rear camera).
Just got this hardwired in today. I suggest buying the hardwire kit and having it prof installed. You will need to buy the kit on amazon because stores wont have this kit. This is a great, low profile, powerful dashcam that suites my security needs. This is one of the best out there. Only other thing I want is wireless cloud backups. I have 9 percent tints and the rear cam can see out of it well. I wanted to emphasize "low profile" due to its shape. Compare its shape to some of the other models and you will understand what im saying. This is less obvious then other designs and makes it look like its part of the car.
Never used the product because the location of the connection points for the Power cord and Video cable interfere with each other, preventing both from being plugged in at the same time. Rear window Video cord plugs in such that the cord is pointed toward the window, preventing it from being plugged into the camera.
Bought as a gift friend loves it, video quality is very nice, I personally don't like how it limits you to 1080 30 when you have both cameras set up but other than that no issues so far he especially likes the night mode
Updated Review 10/4: The customer service rep responded to the Amazon review quickly and reached out for a free replacement of the defective unit (unit was sent and received within a few days!!) The new unit was installed and after few days of driving with the car, I can proudly say the loose button no longer makes the annoying rattle noise; car is dead silence during the drive.Original Review 9/22: As other have stated and experienced, one of the button of the camera seems loose enough which cause this horrible rattling noise during your drive. I am surprised QA missed this as this is priced as higher end dashcam.
This model was rated 3 in the 5 best dash cams. Unfortunately for me I have to return it because it doesn’t work without an sd card & I thought it would. There is a lot of work to be done in order to effectively run the power cable from the back to the front of the car. No 1 spoke about that. This camera is best for handy people. If you don’t install the wires properly they will be exposed.
Very easy install and was nice not to have to drill any holes for the rear camera mount. Will see how it holds up over the months and years. Glad there is a warranty !
I have been using this dashcam for about a month now. I was using the N1 v.1 for many years until it began having issues writting to the microSD card. But it worked relentelessly in the sun, day & night, 365 days a year for about 3-years. Nevertheless, I hope this S1 will also maintain its durability.Regarding video quality, I grabbed my extra N1 and mounted it side-by-side with the S1 to compare the two. Not surprisingly, the were very similar in sharpness and quality. They both have Sony optics and pickup great night video that doesn't get washed out by noise or blur. They both handle the change in contrast too.So far, the camera hasn't dropped due to it being glued with 3M tape; about 1" X 1.5" of it to hold everything in place. Since I mounted on my windshield, it has remained there; wereas, the N1 has fallen/lost suction about 3 times this month. There is pleanty left to test, such as the rear camera and the car hardwire kit. So I'll be updating that as soon as possible. At this moment, I can recommend this dashcam moreso than I did the N1 because it stays in place and captures great video, day or night.
The cameras were great good videos and such, but the tape that comes with it to stick to your windows is crap, did I say it was crap. Everyday i would come back to my car the camera were hanging. Cause the tape couldn’t hold them. So I got some gorilla mounting tape and now it’s fine.
This S1 dashcam from Vantrue has to be the most amazing dashcam, ever! Incredibly sharp image and true color from both the front and rear cameras. The two cameras are separate, the main one is installed on the front windshield. The second one is typically installed onto the rear windshield, however it could be installed anywhere in the vehicle. It's lens swivels from front to back, and also has a switch making it usable with a mirroring feature (like figuring out what ECNALUBMA means). Or perhaps seeing what the rear seat passengers were really up to. The S1 has an extended parking mode, accessible via powered hookup thru fuse box, utilizing a separate purchased device that does not permit car battery to fall below a certain threshhold, so that engine will always start. Additionally, there is the G-force feature, that will wake up this sleeping beauty so that a bump will cause it to take video. I installed mine using the adhesive, as it just fixes the mount. The camera attaches to that. Very quick attach and remove, very solid grasp to window. This is a heavy, well-made camera. In the Box, you get a car charger with built-in mini USB cable, vantrue X1 dash cam and rear camera, adhesive stickers, the rear and front camera brackets, USB data cable, the rear camera cable, the user manual, a quick start guide, and the warranty card. I purchased separately a Samsung micro SDXC Evo select UHS 3 class 10 128gb card for it.The front-facing camera is F1.4 170° wide lens; the rear is F1.8 160° wide lens.I highly recommend this camera.
Once again, Vantrue comes in "HOT" with another dash cam option, this time as a two channel camera device the Vantrue S1. Here are some of my observations and experiences with this camera. Overall my experience was positive with the S1. Make note of the fact that even though the camera is front and rear, the rear camera can be mounted in front of the driver for interior vlogging. A single camera unit cannot capture the rear video. I suggest Vantrue ads a short 1-3 foot video cable along withthe 20 foot cable it already offers. Only a split camera system can allow both vlogging and rear views. Many would like to see a three camera system! WISH LIST!The good stuff:You can setup this camera for interior vlogging. Check out my video!Menu system is intuitive like other Vantrue cameras. The N2 is still easier to operateThe resolution of this camera is typical HD 1080 footage with "fisheye" distortionGood overall low light performance. I could clearly see night images, but you should not expect to see fine detailUnit includes the GPS!Front and rear vehicle 1080p views, with option for single 2K resolution256g loop capture up to 5 minutesThings I would like to see:Lower priceSD card included of at least 32gig capacityCamera angle fisheye correctionShort 1-3 foot video cable so user may mount the camera in the front as an optionSuction cup mounting system along with the sticky pad optionOnce again, Vantrue shows why they lead the dashcam world, according to dashcam users.
I am an Uber / Lyft driver and wanted to upgrade to a better camera and looked all over for a better one... This isn't it.I purchased this camera and pulled the wire from the front unit to the rear camera, chased the power wires up to the windshield and got everything installed. The images are good, but that adds a problem of where to store the higher resolution and faster frame rate images. It eats a 256gb sd card in about a day or so of driving. But that's not the biggest problem. It makes a buzzing noise on the recordings on some roads. Some sort of harmonics between the road and the main unit, I thought it was a wire that was vibrating inside the main case. I contacted their tech support in China and they said send us video proving the problem. I did, and they said the push buttons on the main case were loose and they had made a design change to fix it, send them back the unit (to China) and they will send me a fixed version in a couple of weeks. Really? Vantrue makes an engineering mistake and I am out of a dashcam for a few weeks while they fix it? So, how do you know if you buy the current supply that you'll get one that is fixed or will you too, have rattling buttons? You don't.OK, here is the biggest problem...I drive for Uber and Lyft and want a CABIN CAMERA. This does record cabin audio, but no video. You get clear video from out front, and rear, but nothing in the cabin, where I need it most for my safety and reputation protection. Why doesn't some company make a box that has three cameras, one front, one rear, and one cabin (with IR illuminators) and market them to Uber drivers? Also, why is there a windshield box? It does not need one. You already have to go into the headliner and dash to pull wires, so the cameras can be small, and the "box" can be mounted somewhere out of the way and use your smartphone to access it. That way you can easily set up the features with no cryptic buttons, or hard to read displays. With the slope of my window (Honda Insight or Toyota Prius) makes their display is hard to read unless you unhook it from the window mount and look at it directly.UPDATE: Vantrue support sent me a replacement unit that does not have the buzzing/rattling buttons. I hope they recall the units at Amazon so other users don't have the same issues and hope there is a way to know it is the updated version, rather than the older design.
I stick with Vantrue products because of their communication and customer support. They stick with you and do right by you when you invest in their products. This is my second camera in addition to the N2. Build quality is top notch. They supply everything I needed for install except for an SD card, but who does? This design is bigger than most wedge shaped cameras but the S1 has integrated GPS and also an adjustable camera lens for when center mounting is not possible. (Modern cars have a lot of safety tech on the middle of the windshield)Pros:-Great build quality.-Integrated GPS, not an accessory module add-on-GREAT customer service. *****-Parking mode-User friendly interface-Included very long cable for rear camera (heavy duty). We have an SUV that we snaked the wires from Windshield, down past A pillar, through the bottom door will trim, up along rear seat headliner, to the rear hatch.Cons:-Picture quality, although higher res, not as sharp as the N2-The rear camera lens maybe difficult to adjust and get the perfect angle as the 90 degree mini USB plug may get in the way of full tilt-in-motion (luckily for us, no problem)
Clarity and everything is fine but I expected better "exterior design" for the amount of money I spent. As another user has mentioned the port design/placement isn't great, and personally.. the sticky pad that's supposed to hold the camera on the windshield keeps unsticking. My camera keeps falling off and I keep having to press it on the sticky pad (which remains stuck to my windshield) before I start driving.Would also have been nice if they provided something to keep the cabling from front to rear camera up on the ceiling of the car, but that's not a huge deal
Vantrue’s newly released S1 Dual Dash Camera, with its Sony IMX327 sensor, 170˚ wide angle camera, boasting 2880x2160P at 24FPS video and using the new supercapacitor. In the box you get theFront and rear cameras,A 10 ft car charger,3ft mini USB cable,a 20ft rear camera cable, front and rear camera bracketsand two extra adhesive stickersand of course, the instruction manual.Set was relatively easy and installing it in your vehicle is the same. The S1 was designed with the user in mind to make installation and operation easier. While there are many types of vehicles, making your installation a little different than mine, I will be installing the S1 in a Nissan Altima. It was simple to do with the provided cables. I just routed the 20ft rear cable from the windshield up into the headliner, back to the rear window and connected it to the rear camera. The 10ft charging cable was run the same way, except I ran it down the driver’s side A-Pillar, then under my dash and over to my 12v outlet. There is an OBD 2 wiring harness available to aid in the parking mode that we will talk about later, but at the time of this video it wasn’t available on Amazon. The S1 is made to be discreet. It’s small enough to not obstruct your view but is powerful enough to make a great dashcam. It has a Dual full 1080P FHD Discreet Dash Camera on both the front and rear with a 2-inch LCD Display Screen on the front camera. Now like I said I have had the N2 Pro for over a year and loved the video quality of this camera, but the S1 camera does have a few differences from the N2 Pro.The S1 camera DOES NOT have a in cab rear facing camera like the N2 Pro, instead the rear camera is for the back window only as it DOES NOT have any inferred lights around the lens to help aluminate the dark cab at night. That would make mounting this as a Ride Share type camera to capture what is happening inside the cab of your vehicle not as good as the N2 Pro. This is where the N2 Pro shines making it a better choice for Uber, Lyft, Taxi or Families with Teen Drivers that want to see what goes on in the vehicle. Some of the specs on the S1 is aNOVATEK NT96663 ProcessorSony IMX327 Sensor on the Front camera andIMX323 Sensor on the rear camera.2-inch DisplayFront Camera uses a 170° Wide Angle F/1.47 six-layer glass lensWhere theRear camera uses 160° Wide Angle F/1.8 six-layer glass lensIt also can record in Dual 1920x1080 at 30fpsAnd will record using only the single Front Camera at 2880x2160P at 24FPS 1920x1080P at 60FPS 1920x1080P at 30FPSand 1280x720P at 30FPSImages are saved as a JPEGHas Built-in microphone and speakerBut it does not have in internal memory storage. It can however use up to a 256GB max micro SD Card of a speed rating of U3 or higherThe USB port is a USB2.0, mini connector. Here is where I would like to have seen the more upgraded USB-C port as many of the newer devices support this. The battery uses a Supercapacitor. This we will get into more later. And It can be set to four languages which include English, Chinese, Dutch and JapaneseThe S1 dash cam is cool because it has a compact and contoured design that attaches in front of the rear-view mirror seamlessly. This is important because it makes it less obvious to the driver and passerby’s that the camera is recording. It combines the Advanced Novatek NT96663 Chip with a Sony sensor in both the front and rear cameras that simultaneously record front (170°) and rear (160°) video at FHD 1920x1080P 30fps. This is noteworthy because the simultaneous use of these technologies enables the S1 to monitor in all directions without a visual blind zone, and this is what makes the S1 Dual camera superior when compared to other dashcams. So, what does this mean? Well, it means that you are getting high definition recordings from whatever perspective you choose. In the event of an accident, evidence is everything. With the technology in this dashcam, you can rest assured that the S1 has you covered.Another innovative feature of the S1 is that it has Low Light Level Night Vision. I don’t know about you, but if I personally am going to invest in a dashcam, I want to make sure that it is capable of recording EVERY time I’m in my vehicle, not just when the sun is up. So, if that’s something that is important to you, you may want to consider giving this camera a try. When Vantrue developed this latest camera, they made sure it came equipped with an advanced Sony sensor and F1.47 wide aperture which helps the S1 gather more light. So, in essence, this feature eliminates the need for auxiliary light source, even in a low-light environment. The dual lens dash cam can capture important details like license plates and street signs even in the evenings. Anyone who has had security cameras on their house knows that a camera’s ability to perform in the dark can be of critical importance if it ever needs to be used in an investigation. The dashcam is no different. The absence of this technology can make the difference between useable footage, and useless footage. So, is this feature important? You be the judge. The superior HDR technology will automatically adjust the camera’s exposure so you get the clearest picture even in less than perfect lighting conditions.Ok, so now I’m going to switch gears on you a little bit. I want to talk to you about a common concern of mine whenever I’m shopping for a dashcam. Because I live in an area here in the South where temperatures can reach well over the 90’s during the summer, where overheating is always a concern of mine. So, before I buy, I want to know how the dashcam responds to extreme temperatures. Vantrue really proved that they left no stone unturned when creating this camera. Rather than using a lithium battery like their competitors, Vantrue decided to do something different. While designing the S1, they made sure to include a supercapacitor which can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -4 to 158°F. That’s pretty incredible! AND, not only does this supercapacitor prevent the risk of overheating, it is actually intended to extend the life span and reliability of the camera. For me, that’s a win-win.So, what about when the car is parked? Good question. I was wondering the same thing. Fortunately, the S1 has that covered as well. With the parking mode feature, the dash camera will automatically record when the car camera detects motion in front of the vehicle and it will trigger action to activate recording. A lot of people wonder if the camera can record in both the front and rear of the vehicle, simultaneously when the vehicle is in park. The answer is yes. It’s worth mentioning though, that Vantrue recommends hard wiring it or connecting it with an external battery during the parking mode, otherwise it could drain the battery on your car. See the comments below the video for a link to the wire kit.As an added feature, the dashcam comes with a Built-in GPS module that allows you to check the car's exact route, speed (which can be set to KM/H or MP/H) and location via the GPS Viewer. There is also a Time Lapse function on the S1. When you enable this feature on your dash cam it will keep taking photos at a set time interval and then it will auto edit them together to a video clip. This is smart technology because it reduces the size of the video file. So, if you go on a multi-week road trip, this dashcam has you covered.Seamless Loop Recording overwrites the oldest footage with the newest upon filling a card to capacity. The S1 does support a 256G Max micro SD Card. Vantrue recommends the use of Samsung’s Pro Endurance or Evo cards for optimal performanceOne of my favorite features on the S1 is the G-sensor. Here’s how it works. Once the car has an impact while driving or in parking mode, the G-sensor will automatically lock the footage to an "Event File" to prevent it from being overwritten. Let’s face it, protecting ourselves this is one of the main reasons we install these cameras in our vehicles. Knowing that your video footage is safe when you need it the most is one of the reasons you should consider Vantrue’s latest technology when deciding which dashcam is best for you.AND For added piece of mind, Vantrue is providing a full 18 month Warranty on the S1.
I've owned the Vantrue N2 Pro Dashcam before this model and I must say it was worth the upgrade! So far, I find that Vantrue offers the best in quality with regards to dashcams. The picture quality and the ability to record the rear view is amazing. I have uploaded a short clip that shows Day/night videos with Front/Rear Views. You can see how clear the video is. Nothing is perfect, however, I would like to see them add an Infinity Loop recording mode that would use the entire Size of the SD Card. It stops recording when SD Card is full when Loop Recording is turned off. The largest Loop setting is 5 minutes. Also, they removed the extra USB port for charging another accessory from the charging cable. Set-up was easy and straight forward, just tedious when trying to hide the cabling. I also miss the in-cabin camera. Some of the candid videos of my family and I on long road-trips were hilarious!Otherwise the G1 is another great product from Vantrue.
The pros and cons of the OnDash S1 by Vantrue:Pros:-Sleek camera design.-LCD and images look sharp.-Video recordings are vibrant, colorful and clear.-Rear camera is very compact but slight issue.. see belowCons:-rear camera mini usb cord to main, front dash camera needs could use a redesign. Makes for a more difficult installation-The angle of the LCD and buttons once mounted are a bit awkward for my vehicle.- Similar brands have more competitive prices. While I like the look and images captured by this camera, there is an issue that I feel needs to be addressed with the rear-view camera. The micro usb to micro usb, 20 foot cord that is provided has 90 degree angles where it attaches. The position of the cord once connected interferes with angle at which the camera can record at. When the camera lens is pointed in a straight line of view, the 90 degree micro usb attachment is perpendicular to the mount. It makes it awkward and difficult to keep a straight line of view. If the Micro usb attachment was inserted parallel to the camera lens, there would be no issue. I'll be looking for a micro usb to micro usb that doesn't attach a 90 degree, that would be the other solution. For now, I will not make use of the rear camera.Overall I find there is a lot to like about this dash cam. If the design flaw is fixed, I would wholeheartedly support this brand. Until then I can only give this dash cam a solid 3.5 stars.*8/20/19 Update* Vantrue has great customer service. After seeing the issue I was having, they personally reached out to me and sent me the mini-usb cable I needed. I really have to say the camera and system is a solid 4 stars but the customer service is what made it worthy of 5 stars.
The Vantrue S1 is a great piece. The video quality is amazing. I setup mine to loop at 5-min intervals and works amazing. So far been using it for about a week and already capture a guy running a stop sign in my neighborhood! Installation was easy although routing the cables inside the car took some time and patience. Like anything you have to plan for where you want to route the cable but once finish I could not see any cable in my car and looks so professional.Video quality is perfect to capture both front and back of car. You are able to view wide angle once setup. Wish there were three cameras for front, back and inside cabin but this one is great for front and back. Item is accurate on GPS speed of car. You have to take camera or SD card to be able to download the videos if you want something but does an amazing job. Functions are simple to use ONCE you have tried them a few times. It does a lot of things and has all the right features to save you in any emergency case. Great stuff!
The video provided is on time lapse mode, which can be deactivated from the camera settings at any time.I use this S1 dash cam for my daily driven vehicle. I've been using Vantrue for quite a few years now and I'm happy they came out with this specific model finally. The front and rear dash cams record flawlessly without issues. When you go to watch the videos, they don't skip or freeze a couple seconds during playback. They capture at very good quality and I couldn't have been more satisfied with this product.I have mine hardwired and it stays on even when I leave the car. It will automatically go into parking mode, which only starts recording if it detects movement with the front dash cam only, after 5 minutes of being left unmoved. The GPS speed is very accurate and built in as to not need a separate GPS mount. It's very user friendly and settings are pretty easy to manipulate. The front dash cam will display both front and rear views at the same time or, if you'd wish, only display the front or the rear at one time at the touch of a button. I use a 32GB Samsung Evo Plus SD card and have had no problems with corrupt/missing videos. This amount of storage will allow for just shy of 3 hours, front and rear recording simultaneously. Here in Phoenix AZ, the inside temps of a vehicle can easily reach over 150 degrees Fahrenheit. This dash cam will still work even after being in the hot sun all day, but it is recommended to park in shade if possible so the dash cam can stay cooler. The video quality isn't affected whatsoever with high temperatures and the audio is always very good as well.I highly recommend for anyone to get this S1 dash cam, you will not be disappointed. Front and rear recording, built in GPS, extreme temperature tolerance, and easy to wire in yourself or with the help of someone else. Vantrue has very good customer service and their products have never failed me once, which is why I am still a loyal customer 5 years strong.
The camera came packaged with following items.1. Front S1 Dash Camera2. Rear Camera3. 12 V adapter for camera (mini-USB)4. Cable to connect rear camera (mini-USB to mini-USB)5. USB to mini-USB cable (for charging & connecting to computer) outside of the car6. Front Camera Mount7. Rear Camera Mount8. Additional 3M stickers9. Manual & Qucik Start Guideimage.pngThe only thing you will need to add is microSDXC card - the manual recommends Samsung EVO cards so that's what I purchased. The setup was easy - included sticky mounting part has held the camera well for over 3 weeks now even in near 100F weather. The plugs are properly orientated so that with power and rear cable plugged in they stagger nearly and there is 90 degree bend upward making it very easy to do a professional looking install yourself. There is a hardwired kit available if you wish to have it hardwired instead of using the included 12V lighter socket plug to enable recording even when vehicle is off by tapping into an always hot wire.I configured my settings to do a 5 minutes loop. One thing to clarify - it will only start overwriting old footage once the memory card is full, so even if you have it set to 5 minutes loop, the bigger the memory card, the longer history you will have. Each video file is split in 5 minutes, so it's easy to find and save the clips you need. There are three even sensitivity settings and I ended up increasing it to most sensitive mode. While this sometimes get triggered even by a pot hole, since I have 256GB memory cared it still gives me lot of storage and time until I'd have to clean up the automatically saved clips. There is also a button to press if you want to manually lock a file so it does not get deleted. The neat thing about the software is that all these event based triggers get saved in a separate folder on the microSDXC card so you do not have to hunt to find them through hundreds of 5 minute files. Very nice detail. The front camera is easy to slide upwards and remove if you need to connect to perform updates. I mention this because I had a small issue at first, and emailed support. Within few days, they had released an update to resolve my specific issue and I was able to install the update painlessly. I did have to format the microSDXC card after update, so if you have an old smaller microSDXC card that may not even be Samsung Evo laying around, it will be handy to use that during firmware update so you can format and load the update on that card, rather than the card you use every day that may contain important footage. The camera has ran for nearly 20 days now, and yet to experience any issue with power up & power down. No footage has been missed, and all the event based recording are correctly saved.Overall I would highly recommend this camera for its ease or use and reliability. Just be sure to get a Samsung EVO card.
Updated Aug 25: Vantrue’s customer service is great. They worked with me directly and sent me a brand new dashcam with the issue with rattling noise corrected. I am still evaluating the new dashcam, but wanted to get this update out. I have also bumped up the stars to 4 from 2. I will now return the old dashcam to them.Original review below:Both the units (front and back) capture acceptable quality (resolution) videos. Really like the extra wide angle of view. Adequate length of cables available to neatly tuck and hide them around car trims. Camera units are small enough and design quality seems to be good. Only had this for about 10 days, so we'll see how it does over the next few weeks. The issue I am facing is with an irritating rattling noise that is clearly audible to the driver, and also gets recorded on the footage whenever the car rides a rough road or hits a road bump. I have a newer car and hate anything that rattles in my car. I have installed the camera units following all instructions and have very carefully routed the cables, ensuring there's nothing loose. To be fair, I have not contacted the manufacturer yet, but will do so. Or maybe they can reach out to me if they are reading this review. If they can suggest how to correct the issue, I will be able to bump up the stars to 4 or even 5, because I am otherwise happy with the camera units.

I was honestly expecting to at least be able to read the license plates of the vehicles around me, but even set on the highest quality I cannot make out the plates unless the vehicle is 3 feet directly in front of me or behind me. The front camera is so blurry it is hard to make out any details, not. Impressed at all**update***After posting this review I was wondering why my videos where looking so blurry and it dawned on me that I never removed the protective film over the lens! Doh! Huge mistake on my part. After removing the protector the videos are indeed much better quality and I am happier with the image. I have a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, mounting the rear ramera on this lift gate was tricky indeed, the angle of the connector makes it hard to sit flush and it’s a bit tilted to the side but the double sided tape is holding on so far. Due to the angle of the third brake light on my vehicle there is a downside at night while applying the brake, the red light flares up the whole rear window and it makes it almost impossible to see anything in video, this is not the camera manufacturer’a fault at all, just giving a heads up to any Subaru owners out there with the same vehicle. I would definitely recommended this to people, as well as the harness to have it work on parking mode but the delay shipment day on those are a bit of a downside
I've been testing the first dual channel dash cam from Vantrue S1 for about one month now and I must say its pretty decent! The image quality is excellent with the Sony IMX 327 sensor, the night quality is ok - weakness for all dash cam even for the higher tier cams from BlackVue and Thinkware. The install was pretty straightforward, except I do not like how Vantrue engineered the front and rear inputs on top of each other. It makes it very difficult to mount and dismount the dash cam whenever I need to download cam footage.I ran into a software glitch where the dash cam would display KPH instead of MPH on the overlay - I informed Vantrue through FB and they resolved the issue within 2 days. Talk about awesome customer support! The only gripe I have with the S1 is that it does not have built in Wi-Fi for its price. Vantrue is competing with the VioFo A129 and Vava Dual Dash - both offer the same specs but with built in Wi-Fi for the same price.Overall, the S1 is a valiant effort from Vantrue for its first 2 channel dash cam. With a few tweaks (1080P 60FPS front and rear) and add on features - this is a solid buy! The S1 actually produces a significantly better video quality than my returned $350 Owl Dash Cam.My perfect dash cam would be a 3 channel cam - Front, inside and rear cam with built in Wi-Fi, Cloud Support, buffered parking mode, LTE connection for notifications. Come on Vantrue - Make it happen!Pros:Very good image quality from the Sony IMX 327 SensorSuper Capacitor battery - perfect for extremely high and low tempsBuild quality is excellentVery wide angle 170 deg lensBuilt in GPSParking mode - you have to purchase the optional hard wireBuilt in 2" LCD is very informativeTakes 256 GB MicroSd cardsThe downloadable S1 viewer is pretty neat with integrated mapsVery good support from VantrueCons:The inputs from the front and rear connections are too close/cramp making the removal of the dash cam very difficult whenever I need to download footageRear cam angled connection is awkward - making the install difficultNo Wi-Fi connection - trade off with the 2" LCD screenNo Cloud connectionRear dash cam wires are a bit too thick making the install a bit tricky to hide
The camera quality and pictures are all good, but the design is poor.Issue 1:The front camera has the power cable cord and rear camera attachment cord which always crosses each other. Every one should have faced this issue. This is actually bad because it will damage the ports where the cables are plugged in over the time because of the forces of both wires.Issue 2:The rear camera has another totally different issue. The camera rotates and the base sticks to the surface. However the bad part comes when you realize the wire that goes in the camera is at a wierd angle too. I have attached a video for this. The camera is difficult to set at a surface and get the proper viewing angle that you want.So overall, I would say that the camera is not at all user friendly when it comes to installation, which is the first thing I expect from a 200$ dash cam.Update:After 1 month of communication with Vantrue, I received another cable to connect front and back cam and a different hardwire kit which solved the issue of design and connection. But I am not sure if the new cable is being shipped with all new orders. But I would still say $200 is still overpriced. The camera doesn't have any wireless capability to share data from the SD card either. You have to manually remove the SD card and plug it into your computer to get the data out.But on the up side, the video quality is pretty good.
The camera is just as good m/ even better than its predecessor! The one thing the other N1 has over this was interior view. I mean I could mount this on the front facing into the cabin of the car for Uber driving but it’s going to be useless at night seeing it doesn’t have the IR lights mounted on each sideb
Product impression: It does not look cheap. It’s well built and the outside feels like rubberized. I left it in a car through very hot summer and still no issue.
Very good resolution: See the photos. Both interior and exterior resolutions are good. Interior of my car is black leather and the person is wearing dark blue jacket but the camera still shows a good image. I redacted the face but details are pretty good. Vehicle license plate numbers can be read on 1080P (outside)/1080P(inside). The menu also offers a higher resolution but then it does not offer dual camera views.
Easy setup: Good suction cup/holder is very steady and not shaky. Well built, plug and play as the factory setting is already good for most users. Menu and buttons are simple and easy to understand. Good user interface.
Excellent/responsive customer: Customer support by email is very responsive and genuinely interested in resolving a customer’s concerns and issues. It generally takes 1 or 2 days to response but they do get back to you. They also don’t hesitate to offer exchange a defective dash cam under warranty after trouble shootings.
Optional GPS: Quick fix GPS antenna and enables speed of a vehicle stamps on video files.
Suggestion: Use good quality micro SD cards made for frequent write/delete like SanDisk High Endurance Video Monitoring. Check once in a while to make sure the files are not corrupted. Reformat every 1 or 2 weeks. Keep one extra SD card as backup. Throw away and get a new one if SD cards keep corrupted or turns on/off the dash cam. Also, always use OEM cable and charger. Connect USB directly to the dash cam rather than through the holder or GPS antenna if you are having any power issue. Update firmware only if necessary so that you know if the dash cam experiences some issues you can spot the issue.
